Casein kinase 1 alpha inhibition as novel therapeutic approach for acute myeloid leukemia

Lector: Pavlína Janovská

Field: Hematology and Oncology

About the project

I focus on acute myeloid leukemia, particularly the limited treatment options available for relapsed and refractory patients. I study new selective CK1 inhibitors, examining their mechanism of action, resistance, and efficacy across diverse patient AML samples, as well as their validation in mice xenograft models. I also investigate their potential in combination with other therapies. The goal is to clarify CK1’s role in AML and advance these inhibitors towards clinical research.

Why science?

Even as a child, I loved breaking complex things into simple parts and figuring out how each piece worked. That curiosity about hidden mechanisms naturally led me to science. Research lets me keep exploring the details, asking questions, and uncovering the principles that shape how the world functions.

What do I like most about Brno

I like Brno because I grew up nearby, and it has always felt like the perfect blend of a city and a village. It’s big enough to offer plenty of culture, entertainment, and new experiences, yet it still keeps a sense of calm and familiarity. I appreciate that everyone can find their own place and rhythm here — that mix of diversity and authenticity is what keeps drawing me back to Brno.
