Cellular basis of dental healing

Lector: doc. Mgr. Jan Křivánek, Ph.D.

Institution: Masaryk University, Faculty of Medicine

Field: Biomedical Sciences

About the project

This project investigates the precise cellular and molecular mechanisms of natural dental healing. It explores how teeth orchestrate self-repair through tertiary dentinogenesis, focusing on reactionary, reparative, and newly identified third type of dentinogenesis in response to periodontal damage. Using a mouse model and techniques like single-cell sequencing and advanced 3D imaging, this research aims to uncover key cellular players and growth dynamics to improve the dental field.

Why science?

I've always been driven by curiosity to understand how nature works. Being a scientist allows me to act as a sort of "biological detective", uncovering the fundamental secrets of life. It never truly feels like "work because it is a journey of constant learning and evolution that brings me genuine joy and fulfilment. In this field, you are never stagnant; you are always growing.

What do I like most about Brno

What I like most most about Brno is the atmosphere; it's a city that feels like it still exists for its residents rather than for tourists. I am grateful for all the incredible coffee shops, pubs, and iconic spots (shoutout Scala).
