Graph Neural Networks for 3D Shape Analysis

Lector: Ing. Michal Španěl, Ph.D.

Institution: Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Information Technology

Field: Information Technology

About the project

3D shapes are gaining prominence in medical fields, enabling precise analysis of intricate geometric details in dental treatment planning or brain surface analysis. Digitization came with new manual tasks like 3D segmentations, annotations, and others. The analysis of 3D shapes by deep learning is less straightforward than image data, even more so in the medical domain. I aim to propose novel specialized 3D deep learning frameworks to automate critical processes in 3D digital medicine.

Why science?

The nature of research work appealed to me during my undergraduate studies, where I observed that it is not necessarily as far off from real-world use as people often think. Also, your "bread-and-butter" as a researcher is to be curious. Curiosity is something that has stayed with me since I was a little boy, but this time I am supported for it financially, and, more importantly, I have the opportunity to push the boundaries of knowledge in the field I'm working in.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is a city with top IT companies that are unafraid to bridge industry and science. And they don't have to go far to find world-class scientists because Brno is home to many of them, too.
