Enterovirus Replication In Situ

Lector: doc. Mgr. Pavel Plevka, Ph.D.

Field: Life Sciences

About the project

In my research I study Enterovirus 71 (EV71), a major cause of hand-foot-and-mouth disease in children, leading to rashes and poliomyelitis. I employ advanced techniques like Cryo-EM to delve into lesser-known aspects of EV71 replication, aiming to contirbute to undestanding the life cycle of the virus, possibly guiding the development of effective antiviral strategies in the future.

Why science?

Science fulfills my natural curiosity and the need to explore everything around me. Not only does solving complex problems bring me joy, but I also believe that my efforts can contribute to future innovations in the field of viral infection treatment.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is the perfect place for a structural virologist! From high-end equipment and kind staff to plethora of opportunities within the lab and outside of it. Moreover, I like Brno's great cafés, climbing centres and its closeness to nature.
