Propagation of phages in bacterial biofilm

Lector: doc. Mgr. Pavel Plevka, Ph.D.

Institution: Masaryk University, Faculty of Science

Field: Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics

About the project

Bacteria can cause severe infections, that are often hard to treat because many bacterial strains are resistant against antibiotics. Alternative to antibiotic treatment is method using natural bacterial viruses (bacteriophages) called phage therapy. My project is focused on characterization of bacteriophage infection. I would like to prepare genetically modified phage to track its infection using fluorescence microscopy and study the phage structure using cryo-electron microscopy.

Why science?

Because science is the most fascinating field of work. You are constantly learning new concepts and methods that you may utilize to create solutions that benefit other people.

What do I like most about Brno
