Multifunctional Intelligent Lipoplexes for Cancer Theranostic

Lector: Assoc. Prof. Zbyněk Heger

Institution: Brno University of Technology, CEITEC VUT

Field: Advanced Materials and Nanosciences

About the project

The future of cancer treatment is in theranostic - to seek and destroy. My project deals with smart lipoplexes, unique liposomal nanoparticles, capable of gene therapy and diagnostic using MRI imaging. The structure of lipoplex is precisely well designed to find, mark, silence genes of chemoresistance, and finally, destroy a tumor with adjunctive therapy.

Why science?

Each of us had any experience, whether happy or unhappy, that affected us and made us who we are now. Something like this happened before I was born, affecting my whole family. That is why I wanted to be a doctor since childhood, an oncologist over time, and thus help patients who suffer from the "queen of all diseases" - cancer. However, I realized that as a scientist, I could help to cure and even add hands to the art of stopping this painful disease.

What do I like most about Brno

At first glance, Brno appealed to me by connecting modern art with medieval architecture and the offer of quality universities. Today, I am particularly attracted by the fact that Brno is one of the world leaders in science. Thanks to extensive research institutions, we can find many connected types of research here because people want to work together and help each other. Another proof of the friendly approach is the fact that Czechs and Slovaks are really considered to be brothers here.
