Metabolomic and toxicokinetic in vitro approach for studying chemically-induced chronic liver diseases

Lector: RNDr. Iva Sovadinová, Ph.D.

Institution: Masaryk University, Faculty of Science

Field: Environmental Health Sciences

About the project

Acute or chronic exposures of the human body to chemicals can lead to acute or chronic liver diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). My project will (1) provide an in-depth understanding of the chemical behavior ("fate") and intracellular effects of perfluorinated compounds and cyanotoxins in 3D in vitro models, (2) provide information about their potential to cause chronic liver diseases and (3) elucidate the related mechanism(s) based on changes in the metabolic profile.

Why science?

As environmental health scientist, I think that science is one of the most objective ways to address global issues. We face many challenges now and in the near future, and more consideration should be given to high-quality science during political decision-making.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is a lovely city with a great atmosphere and good coffee. As I really like to do sports, I appreciate the wide offer of sport activities.
