A new biomimetic method to attain hydroxyapatite-titanium composites without undesirable phases

Lector: Edgar Benjamin Montufar Jimenez

About the project

I propose a new concept to combine the mechanical strength of Ti with the bioactivity of hydroxyapatite (HA). The biomimetic processing of HA will avoid the decomposition of HA and Ti and the chemical activation of the Ti surface will promote the covalent bonding with HA. A novelty of the project is the fabrication of Ti structures by additive manufacturing. In addition to carry out the characterization of the HA/Ti interface, the project involves the determination of the fracture mechanisms.

Why science?

One of my long-term goals is that I would like to see myself as an internationally recognized researcher in the field of Materials Science focusing on medical or environmental applications. And currently CEITEC, its infrastructure and great supervisors provide me many opportunities to achieve this goal. I cannot say now where I will live and work in 10 years but I would always like to be connected with CEITEC and the Czech Republic.

What do I like most about Brno

Brno is a clean, cozy, and beautiful city with nice friendly people who are always ready to help or support. And it is not just that. Although the city is relatively old, Brno represents itself as a dynamic city, which makes the place attractive to people from all over the world. In addition, as a person who grew up in Siberia, I must note the mild climate here.
