Project: Inhibition of the DNA repair nuclease MUS81: from a biological probe to cancer therapy.

Host Institution:  International Clinical Research Center of St. Anne's University Hospital Brno
Country of Origin: Czech Republic
Previous Workplace: Austria

TOPIC OF MY RESEARCH:

I have always been interested in basic research which has potential clinical applications. My SoMoPro project is focused on development of inhibitors of a specific DNA repair enzyme and the use of such inhibitors for the elucidation of mechanisms that maintain genomic integrity. Potentially, these inhibitors represent a unique strategy for a very effective cancer treatment.

USE OF THE PROJECT RESULTS IN PRACTICE:

The results of this project will bring specific, potent and intellectually protected MUS81 inhibitors, which will be used as tools in basic research for the elucidation of specific DNA repair mechanisms. Moreover, such inhibitors can be potentially used as a personalized cancer treatment therapy.

WHY SOMOPRO

The SoMoPro fellowship will enable me to work on a top-quality research project, acquire new knowledge and expertise and achieve full professional maturity and independence.
