Become Brno Ph.D. Talent and get a scholarship of CZK 100,000 each year for 3 years! Top 25 students will be awarded.

The purpose of supporting talented doctoral students is demonstrated by a low financial rating compared to Ph.D. students in advanced EU countries. The competition is intended for outstanding talented students – both Czech and foreign - of the first year of doctoral programmes of Brno universities. The main benefit of the project is the doctoral grant. It has a positive effect for a student in eliminating worries about securing daily living. This gives students the opportunity to fully devote themselves to doctoral studies and scientific work, i.e. to building their professional future.

The reason for the support of education in science and technology is a comprehensive effort to create a suitable place for the development of knowledge economy in accordance with the concentration of corporate development centers and public research institutes in the South Moravian Region.

The competition is open and its rules do not provide for any quota of recipients for partner universities, faculties, or institutes.

The grant is provided by the Brno City Municipality. The project is part of the Regional Innovation Strategy of the South Moravian Region.

The number of scholars who receive supplementary studies and the opportunity to participate in a series of activities promoting career and career growth depend on the amount of the grant.

Conditions for participation in the competition:

  • full-time study at partner university (MU, MENDELU, VFU, BUT)
  • start in the autumn semester the 1st or 2nd semester of the first year of doctoral study
  • study of technical or natural sciences
  • the age of the applicant is max. 32 years at the time of registration

Important! As an applicant you must complete the registration conditions in the autumn semester of the year.

The ideal candidate?

  • Geeking out over the field of his/her field of study and research; a hardworking person with creative ideas
  • With excellent results in their study programme and in professional competitions
  • Actively engaging in scientific projects
  • Well-focused on current research activities
  • Can comprehensibly and convincingly present his/her ideas, visions and intentions, even in English

Registration will be open on the website from September 3 to September 16, 2018. Applications consist of a candidate's CV, a description of the project, and a familiarization with the supervisor and background of the project. Top students will be awarded.

The competition has three rounds:

  1. Formal control of applications.
  2. Evaluation of applications by a commission of international professionals. Top applications will pass to the next round.
  3. Personal presentation of the best finalists in front of a multidisciplinary commission.

Who can apply

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  (YOU MUST):

  • study full-time at a partner university in Brno
  • be enrolled the 1st year in a doctoral study program at the autumn semester
  • be under the age of 32 years at the time of registration
  • study technical or natural sciences

  • Masaryk University (MU)
  • Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU)
  • University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno (VFU)

Important: Only those, who meet all of the Eligibility Criteria in the autumn semester 2018 may register for the competition. Otherwise you cannot participate!

It is simple - register and open an account. It serves as an electronic application tool. The registration for the competition is open from 3rd to 16th September, 2018 here.

Important: The whole application must be written in English and submitted in a single PDF file. The maximum length of the application is 12 pages in A4 format of your own text. For more detailed description of the application and the competition see the Guide for Applicants.

What kind of projects can succeed?

To give your project a chance to succeed, we recommend you answer the following questions:

  • What defines a good project? Does my project fulfil these criteria?
  • Is my project meaningful and innovative?
  • Is it written to attract our expert evaluators?
  • Can I explain the reasons why my project is worth funding?

The scholarship will be awarded to the top 25 applicants, who will best demonstrate to our expert committee the qualities of the proposed project. Other 10 finalists will be awarded title Brno Ph.D. Talent Finalist and will be accepted to the program of the career support.
