Sensitive and early disease detection and identification is vital not only for successful treatment but also for spreading prevention. The most common cause of death in the world and in the Czech Republic is cardiovascular diseases and another worldwide problem is the constantly evolving viral diseases. Unlike common methods used in diagnostics (e.g. polymerase chain reaction), fluorescence-based detection requires lower costs and provides higher resolution and sensitivity. This project aims at creating a universal method applicable for a wide range of diseases. The combination of Förster resonance energy transfer, DNA origami-based recognition elements and fluorescence nanoparticles will enable to develop a sensitive, selective and effective technique for diagnostic purposes.
