The realization of SI metre unit use a laser referenced to a known spectroscopic transition. The goal of my project is experimental investigation of the transitions and measurement of their frequencies in hydrogen cyanide (HCN), which has larger wavelength span and better availability than the currently used acetylenes for 1.5 µm lasers. Using saturated spectroscopy and frequency combs, we aim at uncertainty better than 10(-11) so that HCN could become a recognized reference for the SI metre.
