Expanded polypropylene impact copolymer foam has the potential as a material with good insulating properties and low density. When adding nanoparticles into such a system, we can also provide material, in addition to reinforcement, for functionality such as fire resistance or conductivity. With specific control of nanoparticle layout in organized structures and the control of foam porosity from nano to microscale, we can create hierarchical nanocomposite structures with an exceptional combination of properties such as stiffness and toughness at excellent strength-to-weight ratio. In macroscale, the material can be further organized using 3D printing. Within the project, the structural and thermo-mechanical properties of the prepared foams, the optimization of their production and the fundamental principles concerning nanoparticle organization in semicrystalline block copolymers will be studied.
