Switchable Molecular Diodes; a Route towards Electric High-Density Data Storage

An alternative method for data storage on the basis of switchable molecular diodes (SMD) is devised using non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) approach. Unlike conventional diodes, the direction of the conductance can be switched in the SMDs proposed here, namely AX@C2n complexes. Thus, data will be recorded in terms of conductor (one) and insulator (zero) states of the molecular diode. Subsequently, by switching between the states of the diode, data will be erased.
