The study of fossil soils is important in quaternary geology, not only in terms of pedology, but also in the reconstruction of the conditions of previous geological periods in which such soil was developed. Apart from the important function of the stratigraphic divider, the soil reflects the climatic conditions and the development of the area's landscape in the past.The main subject of the project is the research of selected localities lying in transect between northern Bohemia and southwest Slovakia, where the fossil soils belonging to the Marine Isotopic Stage 3 are conserved. The aim of the project is to evaluate the differences in the development of the soils belonging to MIS3 in selected localities based on sedimentological description and soil micromorphology. The study of micromorphology will focus on samples from buried soil horizons. Furthermore, the individual components will be measured on these samples using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry ICP-MS, Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and granulometry by laser granulometer. The result will be the creation of a detailed chronostratigraphy of the terrestrial record Marine Isotopic Stage 3 for Central Europe, for each microregion. The results will be applied to the knowledge of the archaeological record and the relationship between climate fluctuations and human ecological strategies will be discussed.
