Changing currency
The currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown (CZK). In Austria and Slovakia it is the Euro. One Euro is equivalent to around 25,3 CZK. In many places you may pay with Visa or Maestro and other major credit cards. In large supermarkets you can also pay in Euro (only with paper money; the price you are paying has to be at least a half of your bank note; rest is given back in CZK).
In Brno or Prague you may change your money at the airport, at the main station or in many downtown exchange offices.
Tram tickets
You will need CZK coins for the public transportaion tickets sold usualy in the tickets vendors or at the tobaco or press shops. In Brno the basic ride is 22 CZK (18 CZK for a short ride until 15 minutes), in Prague 32 CZK (24 CZK for 30 minutes max).
Taxi
In the Czech Republic taking a taxi was for long time considered a notorious way how to get ripped off. Even now it is always better to ask the rough estimate of the price in advance and to check the taximeter. From the Prague airport to the centre it should not be more than 1000 CZK. From the Brno airport to the centre around 500 CZK. One ride in Brno centre should not exceed 200 CZK.
Food
Former Czechoslovakia is on the eastern edge of Central European Time zone so there are some specifics you need to know. Food in the restaurants can be everything between delicious and disgusting so it is necessary to choose carefully. Regular food is served usually only until 21:00 - 21.30. Fast-foods keep open later but you have to choose even more carefuly.
Two good exceptions of restaurants serving until midnight or later in Brno are the following:
